Faculty Training Lab (FacLab)
The IDS Faculty Training Lab (SPC 105) is a Technology Enhanced Classroom with eight SDSU network-connected workstations and a presenter's station. There are provisions for two wireless laptops. The Training Lab is primarily intended for faculty training provided by Instructional Design Services (IDS) or the Office of Information Technology. SDSU staff can be trained in the FacLab as well. When classes are not being held, the classroom may be reserved by other departments for the training of faculty and staff. When not scheduled for classes the lab is available on a self-service basis for faculty, teaching assistants, staff, and technology fellows.
Software
The lab has a variety of software available for use. Lab computers have a full version of Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, FrontPage, Publisher, InfoPath, and Outlook). Respondus, StudyMate and Impatica are available to enhance the creation of Desir2Learn content. Macromedia Studio 8 (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash Professional, FlashPaper, and Contribute) and RoboDemo 5 is installed to support creating Desire2Learn and web-based content. Adobe Photoshop Elements is installed on all lab computers, and Adobe Acrobat is available to create and edit PDF files. Some video editing can be done using Windows Movie Maker or Windows Media Encoder.
File Management
The lab computers start fresh each day. That is, the system starts each day with its original configuration. Any data left on the computers will be lost. Therefore, files should be saved to the user's own media. Files can be saved to a jump drive, your Active Directory desktop, sent via e-mail, or burned to a CD-ROM.
Support
The Faculty Training Lab may be available for use from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or by special arrangement. Check the IDS training schedule to see if the classroom might be available. Special requests for lab use may also be made through the Office of Information Technology. IDS staff may be available by appointment to assist you. Making an appointment to use the Faculty Training Lab is strongly recommended.
