    Content Module
Desire2Learn course content consists of a series of pages of content such as lecture notes, multimedia presentations, assignments, and quizzes. You create a Content Module and place your class information in Topics within the Content Module. This provides students with a guide to the sequence of study for the course content. The hierarchical structure also makes it easier for students to find specific course content. You can add content within this hierarchy by adding files of content. These files appear as links in the Content Module, which provides students with easy access. When a student clicks a link, D2L displays the content pages that you have created. Your course files can be in any file format including: .txt, .doc, .htm, .html, .xls, .ppt, .pdf, .jpg. and .gif. The preferred file format is HTML created by a HTML editor such as Microsoft Expression Web, or Adobe Dreamweaver. For PowerPoint files the preferred format is created using PowerPoint and converted using Impatica.
    File Management
Manage Files is the central storage area for all the files that make up your D2L course. This storage area is located on D2L's server. It is important to remember that you and your students interact with D2L's server whenever you access a D2L course. You use your browser to access D2L courses on your personal computer. A D2L course consists of HTML, text, and graphic files which are used by the various tools within D2L. Typically, you will prepare files for your course on your personal computer. Then you must transfer these files from your computer to Course Files, which resides on the D2L remote server. Once the files are moved to Course Files, they can be linked to various areas in your course. In Course Files, files are organized and stored in folders and subfolders. You can view the contents of a folder by clicking its title. You can use Course Files to:
    • upload your files to the D2L server
    • download files from the D2L server to your computer
    • zip and unzip files on the D2L server
    • copy, delete, rename, and move files
    • create folders
    • edit files on the D2L server

    Tutorials

The method of transferring files to D2L differs from that used by the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. You cannot "drag and drop" files and folders to D2L. You must move files from your computer to D2L by uploading them. However, with WebDAV configured on your computer you can "drag and drop" files and folders to D2L.
    HTML Editors
  • Microsoft Expression
  • D2L built-in HTML editor
    • The D2L HTML editor is a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) editor which allows you to create and publish content on the Web without having to know HTML. The HTML editor provides word-processor-like features that display text and graphics the same as they will appear in a browser.
